Gaeli is trained by Marco Botti out of Newmarket in Suffolk, one of the sport's great training centres. Botti's yard has been in fine form this season, sending out 45 winners — that kind of output means the stable is genuinely clicking, and horses leaving it tend to be well-prepared. That Gaeli's win came roughly three months ago, and the horse was back racing just yesterday, suggests the team are keeping it ticking over and looking for opportunities rather than wrapping it in cotton wool.

At five years old, Gaeli is in the middle years of a racing career — old enough to know the job, young enough to still be improving. The recent form of 5th, 6th, and then a win reads like a horse that took a little time to find its stride before producing on the day that mattered. Worth watching as the season continues.
