To be fair, zero wins from six races at age three is not automatically a disaster — plenty of horses take time to find their feet — but the placings column is empty too, meaning Frustration hasn't even hinted at a breakthrough. The closest it came to respectability was that sixth-place finish, and even that would have been several lengths off the pace in all likelihood. Raced just one day ago, this is a horse very much in the thick of its career right now, with the yard still looking for any sign of progress.
The trainer is Jennie Candlish, based at Basford in Staffordshire, and it would be wrong to read too much negativity into this one horse's record. Candlish's yard has sent out 60 winners this season — that is a genuinely productive operation, and trainers of that calibre don't give up on a horse without reason. The fact that Frustration keeps getting runs suggests the team still believes there is something to find, whether that's the right race, the right ground, or simply a bit more time to mature. Sometimes a horse just needs everything to click at once.
For now, though, Frustration is doing exactly what it says on the tin.
