Frontpagemoos

The horse competes at Class 6, which is the bottom rung of British racing — essentially the entry-level category where horses who have struggled elsewhere come to find their level. Even here, Frontpagemoos has drawn a blank, going 0 from 3 at that grade. When a horse cannot win at the easiest level available, it raises genuine questions about whether the right conditions have simply not been found yet, or whether wins are just not coming.

Trained by Joe Ponting, based at Wotton-Under-Edge in Gloucestershire, the yard has sent out three winners this season, so there is clearly some capability in the operation. Frontpagemoos has just not been one of the contributors. The horse is still active, which means the yard — the team — have not given up, and at five years old there is still time for things to click. But right now, this is a horse searching hard for a first moment to remember.
