Ascot and Goodwood are not places where average horses win; the fields are competitive, the occasions are high-profile, and the horses who thrive there tend to be the real thing. French Master has won at both within a month of each other.

Behind French Master stands the Newmarket yard of John and Thady Gosden, one of the most powerful training operations in British racing. With 140 winners already on the board this season alone, this is a team that knows how to place a horse well and how to have it ready on the day. That their horse has found the winner's enclosure twice in a row at elite venues suggests French Master is not just in good hands — it is being managed with real intent.

The recent form reads 5-3-21-5-1-1, which tells an interesting story in itself. The two wins at the end of that sequence came first, then there were a couple of quiet runs, and more recently a finish that puts a question mark beside the Ascot form — though with a race as recently as yesterday, French Master is clearly still out there being tested. The career started at Doncaster in July 2024, and in the eleven months since, this horse has stepped up steadily in class and delivered when it counted. At five years old, with the experience of ten races and two recent big-track wins behind it, French Master looks like a horse that has found its level — and that level is an impressive one.
