The standout moment of his career came at Aintree on 15 April 2023, when he won a Class 1 race — one of the very top races in Britain. That is not something most horses ever get to say. Jockey Danny McMenamin described it as a rough race but said Florida Dreams came through it with toughness and speed, adding that he stays well and had plenty of options ahead of him. It was the sort of performance that marks a horse out as genuinely capable at the highest level.

The partnership with McMenamin has been a productive one. In 14 races together they have won 4 times, a win rate of 29% — close to 1 in every 3 races — which is a strong return at any level. Trainer Sandy Thomson, based at Lambden in Berwickshire, has sent out 18 winners this season, so this is a yard in decent form. Thomson has also been thoughtful about placing Florida Dreams correctly, noting after one run that the horse was keen in a falsely run race and would learn from the experience.

The tricky part of Florida Dreams's profile is what happens when the ground dries up and the class rises. In wet or muddy conditions he wins 2 from 7 races (29%), which is a healthy return. But in the top Class 2 company he typically races in, he has not won once from 10 attempts. Those are the races where the margins tighten and the opposition strengthens, and so far he has not been able to convert. His last win came at Hexham in October 2024 — 19 months ago — and his recent form of three mid-pack finishes followed by a near-miss second suggests a horse still competitive but searching for the right moment.

At eight years old and with a Class 1 win already on his record, Florida Dreams is a horse who has already done something worth remembering. Whether that door swings open again likely depends on the weather.
