That single sixth-place finish tells us very little on its own, which is actually the honest truth about most horses at this early stage. One run is barely an introduction. The interesting question is what comes next, and that is largely down to who is doing the thinking.
That would be Michael Appleby, who trains out of Oakham in Rutland and has had 79 winners already this season — a genuinely busy yard that clearly knows how to get horses ready to perform. With a trainer operating at that kind of volume and consistency, Flag Of Eva is at least in capable hands as she figures out what racing is all about. The next run, which should not be far away given she raced just yesterday, will tell us a good deal more.
