That one win came at Dundalk on 28 November 2025, and it remains the defining moment of Fixation's career so far. Dundalk is Ireland's only all-weather track, an indoor oval that races year-round and rewards horses that handle its tight, synthetic surface. Whether Fixation has a particular affinity for the place is worth watching — plenty of horses find a course that suits them and keep going back. The win came five months ago now, and with the horse having raced as recently as yesterday, it's clearly still in active training and being kept busy.
The recent form makes for encouraging reading: finishing second, second, first, sixth, second, and eleventh across the last six races. Strip out that eleventh — likely an off day, every horse has them — and what you see is a horse that has been remarkably consistent, placing in five of its last six races. A win rate of 14%, or roughly 1 in every 7 races, might sound modest, but for a horse this young with limited experience, what matters more is the pattern of placing. Fixation keeps finding the frame.
Behind the horse is the yard of J P Murtagh, based in Co Kildare. Murtagh — better known to many racing fans as a legendary jockey before he turned to training — has sent out 54 winners this season alone, which is a serious operation by any measure. A trainer doing that kind of volume doesn't keep a horse in work unless they believe there's more to come. The fact that Fixation is racing so regularly suggests the team see potential worth nurturing. At four years old, there's every reason to think the best chapters of this horse's story haven't been written yet.
