The horse is trained by Marco Botti at his yard in Newmarket, one of British racing's most famous towns and home to some of the sport's finest stables. Botti's operation has sent out 45 winners already this season, which tells you this is a yard that knows how to get horses ready to perform. Having a young, unbeaten-but-not-quite horse in a stable firing at that rate is a good place to be — the team clearly has the tools to find the right opportunity when the time comes.
With just two races on the clock and a run as recently as yesterday, Fire Thunder is very much a work in progress. But two placings from two attempts means this horse has never finished out of the frame — and for a two-year-old still learning the job, that kind of reliability is worth noting. The first win, when it comes, will feel like the start of something rather than a relief.
