Farndale is a two-year-old who has run just once so far, finishing sixth. That is the entirety of the record — one race, no win, no place. It tells us almost nothing, which is actually quite normal at this stage. Two-year-olds are essentially teenagers finding their feet, and a single sixth-place finish is more of an introduction than a verdict.
What does add some intrigue is the yard behind the horse. Trainer Tim Easterby, based at Great Habton in North Yorkshire, has sent out 126 winners already this season — a remarkable number that puts him among the busiest and most productive trainers in the country. When a horse comes out of an operation that prolific, it is worth keeping an eye on. Farndale raced just one day ago, so the story is very much still being written.
