What makes Fandom interesting is not his record so far, but the context in which it was made. He is trained by Richard Hannon, one of Britain's most successful yards, based at Herridge in Wiltshire. The stable has sent out 118 winners already this season, a rate that speaks to Hannon's eye for horses and his team's ability to get them to the track ready to run. The trainer has already identified Fandom as something different from his everyday runners — ambitious enough to target either the Coventry Stakes or the Windsor Castle, both among the most prestigious races for young horses in Britain. That ambition suggests Hannon sees genuine quality, even if the racecourse record does not yet reflect it. For a horse still learning at five years old, and still racing regularly, there is time for things to click into place. Whether Fandom's next win comes at a small track or one of those big occasions remains to be seen.
