That's not the profile of a horse lighting up the track, but it does speak to a horse that keeps showing up and keeps finding a way to be competitive. Three places from 13 races means Faithful Follower has been close on multiple occasions, which is exactly the kind of persistence that eventually gets rewarded.

The recent form, however, makes for tougher reading. Since that Kilbeggan breakthrough, the results have been 13th, 14th, 8th, and 11th — finishing well back in the field each time. That's a stark contrast to the win, and it raises a fair question: was Kilbeggan the right race on the right day, or is there more to come? At seven years old, this isn't a young horse still learning its trade, so the trainer Paul Hennessy will be working to find conditions that bring out that Kilbeggan version again.

Hennessy operates out of Rathvawn in Co Kilkenny and has sent out 5 winners already this season, so the yard clearly knows how to place a horse to give it its best chance. Getting Faithful Follower back to winning form will be the next puzzle — and with the horse having raced just one day ago, clearly still in active training, another attempt won't be far away.
