The most striking fact about this six-year-old is what happens when the race level goes up. Fair Dinkum has run 18 times at Class 5, the bread-and-butter level where most horses at this stage of their careers earn their keep. The record there? Zero wins from 18 races. Not one. Yet step up into better company — a Class 2 race, one of the top contests in Britain — and Fair Dinkum won at Bath in September 2025. That is not a fluke result buried in a forgettable season. That is a horse that appears to save its best for the occasions that demand it most.

The Lingfield Park record reinforces the point. Two wins from five races at that track means Fair Dinkum has won 40% of its races there — more than twice the overall career win rate. Tracks have their own personalities, their own bends and cambers and gradients, and some horses simply click with one venue in a way that defies easy explanation. Lingfield is clearly that place for this horse, and it is where the career began, with the first win back in November 2023. Normal ground suits it too — 2 wins from 6 races on standard conditions works out to 33%, or 1 in every 3 outings, which is a strong return by any measure.

Trained by Jeremy Scott from a small yard in Brompton Regis in Somerset — 18 winners sent out this season, a healthy haul for an operation of its size — Fair Dinkum is currently in active racing, having raced just one day ago. The most recent win came at Salisbury in early October 2025, and recent form of second, fifth, eighth, twelfth, second, first across the last six runs tells you this is a horse in reasonable shape, even if consistency remains elusive.

The headline is this: Fair Dinkum is almost uniquely bad at the level it races most often, and almost uniquely good when the standard rises. That is a very strange horse — and a very watchable one.
