Exchange Student

The recent form tells an interesting story: a win last time out, followed by some middling results before that (a fourth, a 15th, an 11th, and a seventh). That's the messy, nonlinear path most young horses take. The fact that Exchange Student came back to win after those indifferent runs is promising — it suggests the horse wasn't broken by the disappointments, and that trainer J A Stack's yard, which has sent out 12 winners already this season from Golden in County Tipperary, has found something the horse responds to. A young horse's first win can be a turning point, and at just two years old, Exchange Student has plenty of time to develop. Whether this was a flash of form or the beginning of something more substantial will become clear over the next few weeks as it continues racing.
