The most striking number in the whole profile is the Catterick record: three wins from just five races there. That is not a coincidence — it is a pattern. Catterick Bridge is a tight, turning track, and the trainer John David Riches has said the horse genuinely loves those sharp bends. It showed again just last week, when Evocative Spark won there on 22 April 2026, making it two wins from its last six races. For a seven-year-old horse that was sitting on a 13% overall win rate — roughly one win in every eight races — suddenly finding form and winning at a course it adores is exactly the kind of thing that keeps a racing yard excited.
Ground conditions matter too. On normal ground, Evocative Spark has won 4 of 14 races — that is 29%, or nearly one in three. Compare that to its overall record and you can see the difference immediately. After a poor run at Redcar where the team felt the horse simply did not get a clear run, the Catterick win last week looked like a return to what this horse does best. As Riches put it after the race, it had been knocking on the door for a while.
The CV has some genuine highlights in it. Evocative Spark won a top-two race at Chester back in June 2022, which is one of the most prestigious meetings in British racing — a proper marquee occasion. Its breeding is distinguished too, being a son of Frankel, one of the greatest racehorses of the modern era. Early in its career, trainers were talking about summer festivals at Goodwood and Newmarket as realistic targets. Life has taken a more workmanlike turn since then, with most of its races coming at Class 4 level, where it has actually found things tough — winning only 1 from 22 at that grade.
The partnership with jockey Sean Kirrane has produced just one win from nine rides together, but Riches clearly trusts him — and Catterick last week showed why. A horse that knows exactly what it wants, racing on its favourite track, in the right conditions. Sometimes that is all it takes.
