At those distances, the record reads 1 win from 6 races, a win rate of 17%, or roughly 1 in every 6. That's a meaningfully different horse from the one who has gone winless in 7 races at Class 5 level. The distance seems to suit; the class level, less obviously so.

Everest is trained by Gary and Josh Moore at their yard in Lower Beeding, West Sussex — a operation that has sent out 99 winners this season alone, so this is no small backwater stable. They clearly see something worth persisting with. The most regular partnership has been with jockey Niall Houlihan, but their five races together have not produced a win yet, which is something the team may be weighing up.

Recent form shows real promise mixed with inconsistency: the last six runs read 2-7-1-3-12-5, with that '1' being the Lingfield win five weeks ago. A second place before it, and a third place after, suggest a horse capable of mixing it at the sharp end — the '12' in there is harder to explain, but every horse has days like that. Raced just yesterday, Everest is clearly fit and active, and with a trainer yard firing at this rate, the expectation will be that another opportunity arrives soon. The distance key has arguably already been found — it is just a question of turning that into a second winner's photograph.
