What we do know comes from the family tree. Evenly is by Mountain High out of a mare by Shantou, two names that will mean little to a casual observer but speak to a jumping pedigree — horses bred to jump fences and hurdles rather than tear around a flat track. At five years old, Evenly is stepping into competitive life a little later than many, though that's not unusual for horses pointed at the jumping game, where they often need time to physically mature before asking them to do the hard stuff.
The trainer is Donald McCain, whose yard at Cholmondeley in Cheshire has been in fine form — 55 winners already this season, which tells you this is a stable that knows how to get a horse ready to run and win. When a yard is operating at that kind of volume, a debut runner tends to arrive at least fit and well-prepared, even if the unknown quality of the horse itself leaves questions unanswered. McCain has a long family history in the sport and a strong reputation in the north of England. Evenly could hardly ask for a more experienced hand to guide a first appearance.
Beyond that, the honest answer is we simply don't know yet. The first race will tell us more than any profile can.
