Its career began to take shape at Salisbury in September 2025, where it landed its first win, and the trajectory since then has been largely upward. The recent form reading — a win, then fourth, then another win, a second, and a fifth going furthest back — tells the story of a horse that competes consistently and finds the line when it matters. The latest victory came at Newmarket just this week, on 3rd May 2026, which is about as current as form gets. Newmarket is one of the most prestigious and demanding tracks in Britain, a long, wide, unforgiving flat course where horses with real ability tend to sort themselves out from the rest. Winning there means something.
Behind the horse is the Charlie Johnston operation, based at Middleham Moor in North Yorkshire — one of the great training centres in British racing, set high on the moors where horses have been prepared for the track for centuries. Johnston's yard has sent out 128 winners already this season, which is a staggering number and puts them among the most productive stables in the country. When a trainer is firing in winners at that rate, it speaks to organisation, horsemanship, and a knack for placing horses in races they can win. Evanesco appears to be one of the yard's sharper tools at the moment.
Five races is a small sample, but what is already clear is that this horse does not take up space — it contributes. Two wins and never finishing worse than fifth, with a Newmarket victory fresh on the card, Evanesco is a three-year-old that any racing fan would do well to watch this season.
