Almost all of his racing life has been spent at Class 5 level, the bread-and-butter tier of jump racing, where he has won 2 from 31 races at a rate of about 1 in 15. It is the level where seasoned, honest horses like him spend their careers finding small fields and familiar faces. His trainer, R Mike Smith, operates out of Galston in East Ayrshire and has had a productive season — 25 winners sent out from the yard — so the support structure is there, even if Euchan Falls himself has not been adding to the tally.
His most regular partner in the saddle has been Danny McMenamin, and the combination has actually produced both of the horse's career wins. Between them they have a record of 2 wins from 16 races together, which works out to around 1 in 8 — meaningfully better than Euchan Falls manages with other jockeys. That is a small but real detail, suggesting the partnership suits him.
Smith has been characteristically straightforward about where the horse stands. Speaking in May 2024, he pointed to three second-place finishes in the previous six months, including a particularly good run at Perth behind a horse called What A Johnny. A return to Perth over fences was being lined up, with a summer break pencilled in after that. For a nine-year-old who has not won in over three years, summer holidays and honest efforts in small races are a very reasonable set of ambitions — and Euchan Falls, to his credit, keeps showing up and keeping his the yard honest.
