Equity Law

The wins tell an interesting story. Equity Law broke its duck at Salisbury in June 2023, and returned there less than a year later to win another Class 2 at Sandown Park in April 2024. Then, after a gap, it added a fourth win at Catterick Bridge in September 2025 — though that one now sits eight months in the past. Since then, six races have come and gone without a victory, and the recent form figures of 6-3-3-6-8-8 show a horse that has been competitive in places but hasn't been able to get its head back in front.

What makes this slightly puzzling is where Equity Law tends to run. Despite those Class 2 victories, it has competed most often at Class 3 level — nine times, in fact — and has yet to win at that grade. That's not as contradictory as it sounds: horses sometimes rise to a big occasion and then find a less glamorous level frustratingly difficult to crack. Still, nine races without a win at the level it normally targets is something the team at Great Habton will be keen to put right.

One other number stands out. Regular jockey David Allan has been on board for 8 of those 27 races and is yet to ride Equity Law to a win. That's not a criticism — form comes in waves and partnerships take time — but it does mean the combination is still searching for that breakthrough together. Easterby's yard is in strong form overall, having sent out 126 winners this season, so the horses around Equity Law are clearly firing. Whether this one can rediscover the spark that made it a Class 2 winner is the question worth watching. With a race just yesterday, the answer may come sooner rather than later.
