K R Burke, based at Coverham in North Yorkshire, has sent out 140 winners already this season — a number that puts the yard firmly among the most productive in the country. When a yard is operating at that kind of volume, it suggests a well-drilled operation with genuine depth, and a first-time runner coming out of it deserves a second look. On the breeding side, Emma's Angel is by Dark Angel, a stallion with a strong record of producing sharp, early-maturing two-year-olds who can hit the ground running. That is at least a reason for optimism on debut day.
Beyond that, the form book is blank. No races, no times, no rivals beaten. Sometimes that is the most exciting kind of horse to watch.
