At two years old, Emberlyn is right at the start of everything. Racehorses this age are essentially teenagers being asked to perform in public for the first time, and how they handle that debut often tells you a great deal about their temperament and ability. Hugo Palmer, who trains Emberlyn from his yard in Malpas, Cheshire, is not a trainer who sends horses out unprepared. His yard has produced 66 winners already this season — a serious number that puts him firmly among the busier and more successful operations in the country. When a yard is operating at that kind of volume, the horses leaving it on race day tend to be ready.
Beyond that, there is simply nothing more to say — and that is part of what makes a debut fascinating. Emberlyn is an unknown quantity, and for one afternoon at least, that is worth something.
