The recent form makes for interesting reading. Reading it from oldest to newest: a win, then third, then a blank, then second, then a blank, then another blank. In plain terms, he has been creeping back towards respectability after that September victory, picking up a third and a second before going quiet. He has been off the track for around three months now, which means whoever saddles him next time will be hoping the break has done him some good.

Sam Twiston-Davies has been in the saddle for six of Electric Eddy's 13 races and is yet to find the winning feeling — zero wins from six rides together. That is not necessarily a damning statistic; the horse simply has not won often enough for anyone to claim much credit. What it does mean is that when the pair line up again, there will be something to prove. The yard, run by Nigel and Willy Twiston-Davies out of Naunton in Gloucestershire, has sent out 57 winners this season — so they clearly know how to get horses to the front. The puzzle is unlocking that same result with this one.

Electric Eddy has spent almost all his career in Class 5 company, which is the entry-level tier of British racing. At that level, he has won just 1 race from 9 attempts — roughly one in every nine shots. For a horse of his age and experience, that is a modest return, and it suggests he is a genuine battler in a competitive division rather than a horse who is simply too good for his surroundings. Still, three months off, a patient yard behind him, and a record that shows he can absolutely get the job done on his day — there is every reason to keep watching.
