The recent form reads 6-2-4 working back from the latest run, which tells an interesting story in itself. The second place shows the ability is there — Eklleem has been competitive enough to get on the podium — but the other two efforts, finishing fourth and sixth, suggest some inconsistency that is fairly common in young horses still learning the game. Raced just one day ago, this is a horse very much in the middle of its season, with plenty of time to turn things around.
What gives genuine cause for optimism is who has the horse in their stable. William Haggas, based at Newmarket, is one of the most respected trainers in Britain, and the numbers back that up — his yard has sent out 170 winners already this season alone. That is a remarkable output, meaning horses leave that yard and win races at a serious rate. When a trainer of that calibre keeps running a horse, it is usually because they can see something worth persevering with. Eklleem may not have found the winner's enclosure yet, but being part of a yard firing on all cylinders is about as good a position as a young horse can be in.
