Eastern Wind

The most recent of those six wins came at Tipperary on 14 May 2025, and Eastern Wind raced again just yesterday, so this is very much a horse in active training. The last six runs have produced a second place and little else of note — sixth, tenth, fifth, ninth, and fourth filling out the sequence — which tells you the winning form is there somewhere but has been frustratingly hard to pin down lately. Horses go through patches like this, and the yard clearly believes there is another day out there worth chasing; T G McCourt's operation has sent out 14 winners already this season, so they know what a horse in form looks like.

Where Eastern Wind genuinely catches the eye is at Bellewstown. Two wins from eight races at that track is a 25% win rate — better than one in four — and at a course known for its tight, undulating circuit that can expose horses who lack concentration or toughness, that kind of record is not a coincidence. Some horses simply take to a place, and Bellewstown appears to bring out the best in this one.

That kind of long-running partnership matters in racing; a jockey who has been around a horse that many times develops an understanding of when to push and when to wait. Eastern Wind also tends to show its best form over longer distances, winning 1 from 5 races between a mile and six furlongs and two miles — a 20% win rate that stands clearly above its overall record and suggests the horse has stamina to lean on. Whether Bellewstown comes around again before the season is out may well determine how this chapter ends.
