Eagle's Cairn

The partnership with jockey Bruce Lynn hasn't cracked the code either — five races together, no wins. That said, N W Alexander's yard in Leslie, Fife has been in decent nick this season, sending out 19 winners, so it isn't a matter of a stable short on confidence or form. Eagle's Cairn has raced most often at Class 4 level, which sits in the middle of the racing ladder — not the very bottom, but a long way from the top. Four races at that level, no wins, suggests the horse is finding even that grade competitive.

What's notable is that Eagle's Cairn raced just one day ago, so this is a horse very much in active training and still being given chances. At six years old, horses don't tend to suddenly transform — but yards don't keep entering horses out of habit. Whether Alexander's team believe a change of conditions or course might unlock something different remains to be seen. For now, Eagle's Cairn is a horse that has shown enough to keep getting entries, but not yet enough to win one.
