Eagle Bay

The horse's two victories tell a story of quick progression. The first came at Thirsk on 5 June, a breakthrough moment for any young racer. Four weeks later, on 27 June at Chester, Eagle Bay won again — suggesting the first success was no fluke. That second win came six weeks ago, and since then the horse has been placed twice, finishing third and second in its last two outings. The recent form (7-1-1-3 in the last four runs) shows a dip in the past fortnight, but consistency at this stage of a young horse's career is almost impossible to expect. What matters is that Eagle Bay knows how to win and has done so at different tracks.

Bethell's yard is in good form this season, with 18 winners sent out already, which suggests Eagle Bay is being trained by someone who knows how to get horses ready for the racecourse. At three years old, with a 50% win rate across just four races, Eagle Bay has the look of a horse worth watching. The question now is whether those wins at Thirsk and Chester prove it is genuinely talented, or whether the form will settle at a lower level. Either way, having raced as recently as yesterday, Eagle Bay is clearly active and ready to answer that question soon enough.
