Dyrholaey

Trained by Archie Watson at Upper Lambourn in Berkshire, Dyrholaey belongs to one of the busiest and most productive yards in the country right now. Watson's team has already sent out 63 winners this season alone, which is a remarkable output and a sign that the horses in his care are being placed and prepared well. A 5-year-old with five career wins fits neatly into that picture — experienced enough to know the job, young enough to keep improving.

The partnership with jockey Hollie Doyle is worth noting. In six races together, Doyle has ridden Dyrholaey to two wins — a win rate of roughly 1 in every 3 rides, which is an excellent return and suggests the two have developed a real understanding. Doyle is one of the most recognisable names in British racing, and when she and this horse click, they clearly click well.

The recent form tells a story of a horse coming back to its best. After a couple of disappointing runs — finishing fifth and sixth in two of the last six races — Dyrholaey has bounced back sharply, winning at Lingfield Park just this week, days ago at the time of writing. That win at Lingfield follows a first career victory at Chelmsford in January 2024, and with five wins now on the board, the horse is steadily building a record that speaks for itself.

At Class 4 level — the middle tier of British racing, competitive but not yet at the very top — Dyrholaey has won 2 from 6, again that same 1-in-3 ratio that keeps cropping up. Whether there is a step up in class on the horizon remains to be seen, but right now this is a horse in form, with a trainer firing on all cylinders and a jockey who clearly gets the best out of it. The timing could hardly be better.
