Benton's yard has been busy this season, with seven winners already to its name, suggesting the trainer knows how to get horses competitive. For Dupont Circle, though, the results so far have been frustrating — five outings across what appears to be a range of different race conditions, with recent form showing a spread of finishes (ninth, seventh, thirteenth, seventh, and tenth) that suggests the horse is not finding an obvious level where it can be competitive. The thirteenth-place finish a few runs back was the worst of those five efforts, while the two seventh-place finishes represent the closest calls so far. Without a win or even a placed finish in hand, Dupont Circle is still searching for that first breakthrough moment on the track. Given that the horse remains active, Benton clearly believes there is more to come.
