The numbers bear it out. Dream Shadow wins roughly 1 in every 3 races — 4 from 11, a 36% win rate — which is a serious figure in a sport where most horses win far less frequently. But what really catches the eye is recent form. In its last six races, it has won three of them. That sequence reads 1, unplaced, 4, unplaced, 1, 1 — so two blanks bookended by bursts of winning, with the most recent coming just this week at Haydock Park on 15 April 2026. Dream Shadow raced yesterday and won. That is about as current as form gets.
The partnership with jockey Jonathan Burke has been a productive one. Across 8 races together, Burke has guided Dream Shadow to 3 of its 4 career wins — a win rate of 38%, or roughly 2 in every 5 races they have shared. That is not coincidence; that is a horse and rider who understand each other. The journey started at Uttoxeter in October 2024, when Dream Shadow claimed that first career win, and things have clearly built from there.
The one area where Dream Shadow has not yet cracked it is at the very top level. In 5 races at Class 1 — the elite tier of British racing — it has yet to win. No wins from 5 attempts tells you there is still a ceiling to be tested. That is no disgrace; Class 1 races are where the very best in the country line up, and simply competing at that level says something about the horse's ability. Whether Dream Shadow can make that final step is the interesting question still to be answered.
Fergal O'Brien's yard has been flying this season, sending out 90 winners, and Dream Shadow looks every bit a product of a stable in confident form.
