The recent form figures — 13, 7, 10, 4, 5, reading from oldest to most recent — do at least tell a more encouraging story than the bare record suggests. The direction of travel is clearly upward. Finishing 13th on debut, then 7th, then 10th, before placing 4th and most recently 5th, shows a horse that is gradually finding its feet and getting closer to the action. It hasn't broken through yet, but it isn't running like a lost cause either.
Gallagher's yard has sent out 8 winners already this season, so the operation clearly knows how to get a horse ready to win. Dream Of Ithaca has been competing at Class 4 level — solid, mid-tier racing — and has raced there three times without success. Whether the team decide to drop it into softer company to build confidence, or stick at the same level and trust the improving form to eventually click, will be worth watching. With just five races under its belt and a run as recently as yesterday, this is a young horse very much in the middle of its education. The first win is still to come — but it may not be far away.
