The partnership with Harry Skelton, Dan's brother, is clearly at the heart of what makes this horse tick. Harry has ridden Doyen Quest in 18 of its races and won on 7 of them — a win rate of 39%, identical to the horse's overall career average, which tells you the pair are operating in genuine sync. After the Exeter win in November 2025, Dan was candid about the tactics: the horse had seemed to wait for others at Chepstow the time before, so Harry rode aggressively, jumped boldly, and dragged a win out of a race where Doyen Quest was carrying a penalty and giving weight to every rival. "One we probably nicked," the trainer admitted — which is another way of saying it takes a top jockey to nick races like that.

The horse's love of normal ground is striking. Six wins from seven races on a good surface works out to an 86% win rate — barely a false step across those conditions. Most recently, Doyen Quest won a Class 2 race at Sandown Park just this week, taking its recent form to 1-4-2-2-1-2 and confirming there is no sign of any dip in form. A horse that keeps placing when it doesn't win, wins when it should, and performs at the top end of the sport is exactly the kind of racehorse that rewards following closely.
