The partnership with jockey Jonathan Burke has been given a real chance to click — six races together and still waiting for that breakthrough. Burke clearly knows this horse well by now, and recent form does show some encouragement: a pair of fourth-place finishes sandwiched around a fourth and a third in its last four outings suggests Donttellyamumjack is running consistently without finding that final gear when it matters most.
The horse runs out of Fergal O'Brien's yard in Withington, Gloucestershire, and that at least is a solid platform. O'Brien's team has sent out 90 winners already this season — that is a yard operating at a high level, with the horses fit and well-prepared. Donttellyamumjack has predominantly raced at Class 4 level, which sits in the mid-tier of British racing — competitive enough to be a genuine test, but not among the elite events. Three runs at that level, though, have produced nothing yet.
The honest truth is that zero wins from eight races is a tough record to dress up. But two placed finishes tell you this horse is not simply making up the numbers — it has been close enough on occasions to suggest a first win is not an impossible ask. With an active trainer, a settled jockey, and a run under its belt just yesterday, the story is still very much being written.
