At this level, that kind of losing streak can mean a horse is slipping, or simply that it has met a tougher crowd.

There is a bright spot: Dog Fox performs markedly better over 1m3f to 1m4f, where it has won 2 of 5 races, a 40% win rate that stands in sharp contrast to its overall record. That distance appears to suit its running style. Henry Brooke, its most frequent jockey, has also found more success than the yard's average—2 wins from 8 rides together, a 25% rate. When everything aligns—the right trip, the right rider, the right race—Dog Fox can win. The problem is making that happen often enough to matter. Trained at Oldcastle in Cheshire, the yard itself has sent out 43 winners this season, so the setup is solid. But Dog Fox needs to rediscover its winning touch soon, or the racing season will simply move on without it.
