That one win came at Chepstow in November 2025, and it appears to have been the moment the yard had been waiting for. Trainer Philip Hobbs — who, alongside Johnson White, runs a yard in Bilbrook, Somerset that has sent out 37 winners this season — noted before that race that Doctors Hill had already run well at Chepstow, finishing third in a good race there, before an unfortunate unseating at Fontwell clouded his next outing. The feeling from the team was that Fontwell told them little about where the horse actually was, and that confidence proved well-placed when he followed up with the win days later.
Since then, however, the last six races have brought no wins — finishing 3-6-6-2-6-3, which is a mixed bag. There is encouragement in those two third-place finishes and a runner-up, but the 6-6 in the middle of that sequence suggests inconsistency is still a feature. He has done most of his racing at Class 4 level, winning 1 from 5 races at that grade — a 20% win rate, or roughly 1 in every 5, which is a perfectly respectable return at that tier if he can find that form again.
Sean Houlihan, who rides him most regularly, has a 20% win rate aboard Doctors Hill — 1 win from 5 races together — so the partnership has already tasted success, even if they have been waiting a while to repeat it. With the trainer keen to keep him at two miles for now and Chepstow clearly a track that suits him, the interesting question is whether that November win was the beginning of something or just a one-off peak. Given he raced just one day ago and is clearly in active training, we should not have long to find out.
