Do Ye Wanna

The recent form makes for tough reading. A third place a few runs back offered a flicker of hope, but either side of it sit a string of seventh-place finishes and two blank runs where the horse failed to complete or wasn't placed at all. That is the pattern of a horse that shows up occasionally but hasn't yet found a way to put a race together from start to finish. At Class 4 — a mid-tier level where horses are typically competing for modest prize money — Do Ye Wanna has had four chances and converted none of them, which suggests the horse is finding even this grade a challenge.

What keeps things interesting is that Do Ye Wanna raced just yesterday, so this is a horse very much in active training and still being given opportunities. It is based with George Bewley in Colby, Cumbria — a yard that has sent out seven winners already this season, which tells you the trainer knows how to get a horse ready to win. The question is whether Do Ye Wanna can finally deliver on its end of the bargain. Sometimes a horse just needs the right conditions or a race that sets up perfectly, and with a trainer who is clearly getting results from the yard, it would be premature to write it off entirely. That first win, if it comes, will have been a long time in the making.
