That one moment of glory came at Wexford in May 2024, over two years ago now. It hasn't won since, and its last six races have produced a sequence of 2-5-5-2-2-3 — a string of near-misses and mid-pack finishes that shows the horse is still trying without quite getting the job done. Two second-place finishes in that run are tantalisingly close, the sort of results that keep the yard hopeful without ever quite delivering the goods.
The partnership with jockey Mr A P Ryan has become the main one, with the pair teaming up for six of those eight races together. Ryan has steered Divaboriva to that single win, giving them a win rate of 1 from 6 — around 17%, which is actually a touch better than the overall career record suggests. Jonathan Sweeney trains the horse from his yard in Kildinan, County Cork, and has had a reasonable season with eight winners sent out. Divaboriva hasn't been one of them, but it raced just yesterday, which at least confirms the horse is fit, active, and still being targeted for another opportunity.
At seven, with a modest career record and a winning drought stretching back two years, Divaboriva isn't the star of the Sweeney yard. But it keeps showing up, keeps finishing in the frame often enough to justify its place, and clearly has a level it can perform at. Whether it can find its way back to the winner's enclosure is the open question — and given it raced only yesterday, the answer shouldn't be long in coming.
