The recent form makes for difficult reading. Looking at the last six races, the numbers running from most recent backwards read 11-11-7-10-3-5. That third place is the solitary bright spot, a flicker of promise buried inside an otherwise grim sequence. Two last-place finishes in the most recent two outings suggest the horse is currently running well below its best, whatever that best may be.
Paddy Bradley has been the regular partner in the saddle, riding the horse in five of its eight races without a single win between them. That kind of extended run together without a result tends to raise questions — though it is worth noting that Bradley hasn't had much to work with. Simon Dow, who trains out of Epsom in Surrey, has done solid work this season with 14 winners from the yard, so the training operation is clearly capable. Dios De La Guerra simply hasn't managed to deliver at that end of things yet.
The horse has run six times at Class 5 level — the more accessible end of the racing ladder, where horses are broadly expected to be competitive — and has yet to win a single one of those races. That is the detail that stands out most. Class 5 isn't the sport's shop window, it's where horses are supposed to have a realistic chance. Six attempts, no wins, suggests either this horse is persistently just short of the mark, or the right conditions haven't aligned. With a race just yesterday and the campaign still live, there is at least time for the story to take a different turn — but based on the evidence so far, Dios De La Guerra still has plenty to prove.
