The horse was tried over the wrong distances, ran too freely in blinkers at Hamilton, and simply never got into his races the way a good trainer knows a horse should. The breakthrough came when Jardine switched him to a hood over a mile and two furlongs at Ayr in July 2024 — and suddenly everything clicked. "I couldn't believe he'd slipped down to a mark of 56," Jardine admitted at the time, suggesting he always felt the horse was better than his record showed. That kind of remark from a trainer who knows a horse's home work is worth paying attention to.

What makes Dingwall genuinely interesting is what he does at Wolverhampton. Of his 34 career races, nine have been at that track — and he has won two of them. That might not sound dramatic, but winning 2 from 9 anywhere (22%) is well above what you would expect from a horse with a 9% overall win rate, which translates to roughly 1 win in every 11 races across his career. Wolverhampton is clearly a track that suits him, and his most recent win came there as recently as November 2025. Jardine's yard, based at Carrutherstown, has been in fine form this season with 57 winners sent out, so Dingwall is operating within a busy, confident stable.

He also performs best on normal ground — 2 wins from 15 races in those conditions — and has spent most of his career in Class 6 company, the entry-level tier of British racing, where he has won 3 from 19 (16%). That is a solid record at that level. His regular partner Andrew Mullen has ridden him 14 times together for just 1 win, though the pair have clearly spent a lot of time getting to know each other. With four second-place finishes in his last six races and a run just yesterday, Dingwall is an active, consistent horse who keeps knocking on the door — and if Wolverhampton comes around again, history suggests he will answer it.
