Trained by G M Lyons out of Dunsany in Co Meath, Diego El Queso comes from a yard that clearly knows what it's doing — 49 winners already this season is a serious tally and puts the operation firmly among the busier, more successful stables in Irish racing. The horse fits the profile of a Lyons runner: competitive, reliable, and capable of finding the winner's enclosure when the moment demands it.

The recent form is particularly interesting. Across the last six races — 1-3-8-2-1-3 — there is one blip, that eighth-place finish sitting awkwardly in the sequence, but everything else suggests a horse in good health and good heart. Two wins from the last six races is a strong return, and crucially those wins have come at real venues. The first career win arrived at Dundalk in October 2025, but the more recent victory — just this week, at Leopardstown on 15 April 2026 — matters more. Leopardstown is one of Ireland's premier tracks, and winning there, at four years old, in current form, is a meaningful result.

The one puzzle worth noting is the partnership with Colin Keane. Ireland's champion jockey has ridden Diego El Queso five times without a win between them — a combination that looks better on paper than it has delivered in practice. The two wins in the horse's record have come elsewhere. That's not necessarily damning, but it's the kind of detail a sharp observer would file away.

Raced just one day ago and already with a win this week, Diego El Queso arrives at this moment in its career in the kind of form that makes it genuinely interesting to follow. At four, there may well be more to come.
