Dhahabi

The horse's peak came nearly three years ago, winning a top-tier Class 2 race at Meydan on 22 December 2023, and before that claiming its maiden win at Newmarket in September 2022. Since that second success, Dhahabi has been chasing form without finding it, going winless through its last six races. Recent runs show scattered results: a fourth-place finish most recently, then a pair of tenth-place efforts, a fifteenth, and some blanks. It is still active and raced just yesterday, but the dry spell is real and speaks to a horse that has found life harder at the top end of Class 2 racing.

Ian Williams's Portway yard has been prolific this season with 96 winners, and Dhahabi remains a player in that operation. The key to squeezing value from this horse lies in course conditions and race shape. Find it a race on normal ground over the right trip—preferably stretching its legs at the longer end of its comfort zone—and there is genuine reason to believe it could deliver. Until then, Dhahabi remains a horse caught between promise and reality, waiting for the right race to remind everyone what it can do.
