The trainer, Richard Hannon, has already sent out 115 winners this season from his yard in Herridge, Wiltshire — a remarkable volume that puts him among the busiest and most productive handlers in the country. To put that in context, most trainers would consider 20 or 30 winners a strong season. When a yard is firing at that rate, it means they know how to get horses ready to run well, and importantly, they know when a horse is ready to make its debut. Hannon has a long reputation for placing young horses smartly on their first appearance.
So while Desert Legend arrives as a complete unknown in terms of results, the surrounding picture is encouraging. Good breeding for early speed, a trainer in red-hot form. The first race will tell us a great deal.
