Densworth

The most recent win came at Wetherby in November 2024, and it told you a good deal about where Densworth is at right now. Jockey Callum Pritchard was candid afterwards — the horse had blown up at Aintree before that, meaning he ran out of steam and did not finish well — but Wetherby was a different story. Pritchard noted that Densworth got tight at the second-last fence, the kind of moment that can unsettle a lesser jumper, but he used his feet cleverly and found a way through. That is the sort of thing only a horse with genuine experience and a cool head manages to do. The trainer was similarly encouraged, pointing to how well he jumped throughout and suggesting that if he keeps improving over fences, a bigger race at the festival could be on the horizon. That is not the kind of talk a trainer reaches for lightly.

What makes Densworth's record particularly interesting is how reliable he is in the right conditions. On normal ground he has won 3 of his 6 races — exactly half — and at Class 4 level, which represents solid mid-tier competition in Britain, he has won 2 from 4. Find him on a decent surface in the right company and he is as likely to win as not. His very first win came at Worcester back in June 2022, which means he has been delivering at various tracks across a period of years rather than flashing briefly and fading.

He raced just one day ago, so Densworth is very much in active training and not a horse winding down. With the trainer keeping an eye on festival possibilities and a horse who clearly knows his job over fences, there is every reason to think the most interesting chapter of his career may still be ahead of him.
