That Leopardstown win, her first career victory, came just two months ago and is the centrepiece of her story so far. Leopardstown is one of Ireland's most prestigious tracks — a proper test that sorts out horses who can handle a quality field from those who cannot. Getting off the mark there, rather than at a smaller venue, gives that win a bit of extra weight. It suggests Dee's Lady is capable when conditions and occasion align.
She does most of her racing with Keith Donoghue in the saddle, and the pair have a decent partnership to point to: one win from five races together, a win rate of 1 in 5, which is a solid return at this level. Donoghue clearly knows her well, and that familiarity often matters more than people realise — a jockey who understands when to push and when to sit still can be the difference between second and first. Behind the scenes, she is trained by J P Dempsey out of Carbury in County Kildare, a yard that has sent out 16 winners already this season. That is a stable in form, and horses trained by yards on a roll tend to arrive at the track in good order.
She raced just yesterday, so there is plenty of life in her current campaign. Whether she can add to that single win or whether her role is to keep filling the minor placings, she is clearly a horse who turns up ready to compete — and right now, that is more than can be said for plenty of others.
