Gordon Elliott trains him out of Longwood in Co Meath, and Elliott's yard has sent out 209 winners already this season — one of the most productive operations in Ireland. Elliott himself has spoken warmly about Dee Capo's prospects as a chaser, suggesting he is still relatively unexposed at this level and that a well-chosen chase over around two and a half miles could be the making of him. The word "unexposed" in racing means there is more to find — the horse hasn't yet been asked all the questions, and the answers might be very good ones.

His recent form reads as patchy — he hasn't won in his last six races, and there have been some unfinished runs in there — but context matters. A fall at Navan when running well, Elliott noted, cost him what looked like a promising effort. Danny Gilligan rides him most often, winning 1 from 7 together, though Kennedy's Punchestown success showed what Dee Capo can do on a big day. Still active and clearly in good hands, the next time the rain really sets in and Elliott points him at a two-and-a-half-mile chase, he will be worth watching closely.
