The recent form figures of 4-4-5-2-10 are a mixed picture. That second place is the obvious highlight — close enough to taste victory — but the latest run, a tenth, suggests the horse is finding some races harder than others. At this stage of a young horse's career, that kind of inconsistency is not unusual. Three-year-olds are still learning, still developing, and a sequence like this often means the right race, the right conditions, and the right day simply haven't lined up yet.
What works in Decem Starr's favour is the yard sending the horse out. Jack Jones, based at Newmarket — one of the most respected training centres in British racing — has sent out 33 winners already this season. That is a busy, successful operation, and horses trained there tend to be placed in races where they have a genuine chance. When a trainer of that output keeps running a horse, it usually means they still believe in what they have. The first win may be closer than the record suggests.
