His biggest career moment came at Newmarket in April 2024, when he won a Class 2 race — one of the top races in Britain. Jockey Sean Levey, who has won 5 of their 23 races together (roughly 1 in every 4-and-a-half rides) and clearly has a strong understanding with the horse, called him a potential "fun Saturday horse" after that day. That phrase says something — it hints at a horse capable of turning up for the big weekend occasions and performing.

Trained by John and Sean Quinn at their Norton yard in North Yorkshire, Dark Thirty operates within a team that has sent out 44 winners already this season, so this is not a quiet corner of the sport. The trainer has noted that he goes well when fresh and can fight back under pressure, though a difficult start at Newmarket recently left something in the tank — his trainer's view was that there is more to come if that was a one-off.

Recent form has been patchy — a win, then a run of mid-field finishes — but given he just won at York this week, Dark Thirty appears to be hitting form again at exactly the right time. When the ground is right and the track suits him, he is genuinely hard to dismiss.
