Dark Summit

What works in Dark Summit's favour is the yard behind the horse. Denis Gerard Hogan operates out of Cloughjordan in County Tipperary, and with 56 winners already on the board this season, this is clearly a stable in fine form. When a trainer is firing at that rate, it tends to mean horses are arriving at the track fit, well-prepared, and ready to run — so Dark Summit is at least in good hands while waiting for that first win to arrive. The fact that the horse raced just one day ago shows the team are keeping Dark Summit busy and active, which can be a deliberate strategy when the yard are hunting for the right opportunity to get off the mark.

At four years old, there is still time. Some horses take a while to mature and find their confidence in a race, and a yard sending out winners at the pace Hogan's is right now is exactly the kind of environment where a horse can suddenly click into gear. Whether Dark Summit can build on that sole placed finish and turn it into something more is the question — but the pieces are not entirely absent.
