The recent form is a mixed picture. Back-to-back third-place finishes in its two most recent races suggest the horse is competitive enough to finish in the money, but the three runs before that — ninth, tenth, and seventh — raised real questions about consistency. A fourth-place finish sits further back in the sequence too. What you see is a horse that can run well one day and disappear the next, which makes it genuinely difficult to pin down.

Daretobedifferent races at Class 5 level, which is the entry-level tier of British racing — essentially where horses who haven't established themselves compete to find their feet. The fact that it has gone six races at this level without winning suggests that even at this grade, victory has been elusive. That said, those two recent thirds show there is something there worth watching. It raced just yesterday, so this is a horse very much in the thick of its season right now.

The yard behind it, trained by D Donovan out of Newmarket — one of the heartlands of British racing — has sent out three winners this season, so the operation knows how to get a horse to the line first. Whether Daretobedifferent can be next on that list remains the question. At three years old, there is still time to find the right opportunity, and a horse that places as often as this one does is not without ability. It just hasn't found the moment to put it all together yet.
