Tom Queally has ridden Dannick in 8 of its 14 races and has yet to get a win from any of them. That is not necessarily a reflection on the jockey — Queally is an experienced, capable rider — but it does suggest the partnership has not found the key to unlocking what this horse can do. At some point, a change of approach might be worth considering.
The training operation behind Dannick is a serious one. Gary and Josh Moore, based in Lower Beeding in West Sussex, have sent out 99 winners so far this season — that is a yard firing on all cylinders, which makes Dannick something of an outlier in their string. Most of their runners find the winner's enclosure eventually. Dannick, competing mainly at Class 4 level — the mid-tier of British racing, where most everyday racehorses spend their careers — has gone 0 from 8 at that level. For a horse trained by a yard of this quality, that record stands out.
At 4 years old, Dannick still has time to turn things around. Horses can take a while to mature and find their best conditions. But right now, the evidence points to a horse that is competitive enough to place occasionally, yet consistently finds a winner too good on the day. The challenge for the Moore yard will be finding the race and the conditions where everything clicks — because on current form, Dannick is doing the hard work without getting the reward.
