Dancing Tiger

The first win arrived at Goodwood in September 2025, and jockey Marco Ghiani described it perfectly afterwards: the plan was to race near the front, there wasn't much pace in the race, and Dancing Tiger drifted into the lead almost by accident. Once there, though, he was completely at home. He galloped all the way to the line without being asked. It's the kind of performance that sticks in a trainer's mind.

Roger Teal, who trains out of Lambourn and has sent out 22 winners already this season, has been patient and deliberate with this horse. He had the return race at Doncaster in late March 2026 circled on the calendar for months, specifically because the going there in early spring tends to be wet and soft — exactly what Dancing Tiger wants beneath his feet. The horse had been on the weak side as a three-year-old, Teal felt, and the hope was that a winter's growth might bring a bit more improvement. Doncaster proved the point: Dancing Tiger won again, 7 weeks ago, and the trainer said afterwards it was lovely when a plan comes together.

At his best distance — somewhere between a mile and a mile and a quarter — he has won 1 from 4 races, a 25% win rate that compares well with his overall record. He mostly competes at Class 5, the bread-and-butter level of British racing, where he has won 1 from 5 races. Neither number screams greatness, but this is a horse who has won two of his last six races, is currently active, and has a trainer who clearly knows exactly what conditions bring out the best in him.

The story of Dancing Tiger is really the story of good horsemanship: identify what your horse loves, find the right races, and wait for the weather to cooperate. When everything lines up — soft ground, a pace that suits, a clear run — this horse delivers. Whether he can do it on better ground or in better company remains to be seen, but right now, Teal and his team are calling the shots well.
